In 1882, Adeline Virginia Stephen was born in London. Who is popularly known as Virginia Woolf. She was the daughter of the eminent critic and founding editor of the Dictionary of National Biography Leslie Stephen and Julia Prinsep Duckworth Stephen.She started writing in her teenage. Some of her popular novels are Night and Day (1919), Jacob’s Room (1922), Mrs. Dalloway (1925), and the Years (1937).

Virginia Woolf wrote an extensive essay titled “A Room of One’s Own.” First issued in 1929, the essay is based on the lectures delivered by her at Newnham College and Girton College in October 1928. The text for the delivery of the series of lectures, titled “Women and Fiction,” and thus the essay, are deemed non-fiction. This extensive essay uses a fictional narrator and narrative to investigate women both as writers of and characters in fiction. This article is generally regarded as a feminist text and is noteworthy for its defence of both a literal and figurative space within a literary tradition dominated by women writers.
